Constantius II. war ein Sohn des Constantinus I. d. Gr. und der Fausta. Er wurde 337 n. Chr. nach dem Tod des Vaters zusammen mit seinen beiden älteren Brüdern Constantinus II. und Constans Kaiser und regierte zunächst den Ostteil des Reiches. Nachdem beide gestorben waren herrschte er ab 350 über das gesamte Reich.
