"Nec Aspera terrent" (= selbst Schwierigkeiten schrecken nicht) war der Wahlspruch des Herzogs Wilhelm (1831 - 1884). "Á virole brisée" verweist darauf, daß die Fa. Uhlhorn für die Rändelung die Technik des "gebrochenen Ringes" von Pierre Antoine Thonnelier übernommen hat. Der hannoversche Münzmeister Theodor Wilhelm Brüel bestand auf dieser Maßnahme, um Falschmünzerei und Randbefeilung zu erschweren.
