Der Apotheker Mascher gründete im Jahr 1886 eine Stiftung und verfügte, dass aus den Zinsen des Grundkapitals jedes Jahr eine goldene und drei silbernen Medaille verliehen werden, wobei die goldene für 30 Dienstjahre vorgesehen war. Mit der Goldmedaille war eine Geldprämie von 100 Mark verbunden.
