Ex Sammlung Gasvoda. Ex Sternberg 31, 1996, Los Nr. 306. Der Dreifuß ist eng mit dem Kult des Apollo verbunden. Er war das Leitmotiv der Münzprägung von Kroton, was möglicherweise mit der Lehre des Pythagoras zusammenhing, der die Dreizahl als Symbol höchster Harmonie und Perfektion betrachtete. Der Philosoph war um 530 v. Chr. von Samos nach Kroton geflüchtet und hatte hier eine Schule gegründet, die schnell auch politischen Einfluß gewann.
